QUALITY

The autographs in this collection are signed and collected during the players active career and are, of course, genuine. None of the material is new and have been saved in a way common for that period in time. In other words, a lot of pictures from various football magazines, notepads etc. Excluded from that are the autographs signed on white cards as those specific cards could have been signed either during their career or, in some cases, after their active careers as football players.

You can also spot differences between pictures which can be attributed to the time period they´re from.  For instance, picture quality or resolution dating back to the 50´s or 60´s is of lesser quality than those that origin from the 70´s. Smaller pictures of poor quality met the needs for many collectors during that time.

Nowadays most autographs are often signed with sharpies on a printed photography. As a collector one might have to settle for what was available at that time to complete one’s collection.

For my own part the ambition was to acquire the signature of each and every player, manager, trainer and coach from one particular season, namely the 70-71 season. That was my goal, but it could just as well be something else, like everybody from the club in your heart, or maybe only players with experience from playing in a national team and so on.

How you collect and preserve your collection can obviously also differ a lot. My collection was arranged by each of the 92 clubs in their own respective album. I also choose to allow doubles, so the collection got rather extensive and bulky, containing some 8-9000 autographs including quite a lot of signed pictures.

As to regarding the quality, beyond what has already been stated above, my material has been lightly mounted in albums covered by a transparent plastic sheet. Pictures have been attached with small studs in their corners. Where, if possible, I have tried to take measures to give stability to old newspapers and magazines. Some pictures may still have signs of how they have been mounted or may have some adhesive material still attached, something that was a common way of presenting collections when held in a scrapbook or similar in earlier times. My material got few traces of that left, as I have tried to cut away old tape and similar from corners. But still, darkened traces of where adhesive tape have been used may be present on some pictures. Try and study the pictures in my web shop.

Furthermore a few objects may have corners that are cut. This should also be visible in the shop and I have tried to mentioned it in the description.

Some autographs have a weak signature. Could either be from age or because they were signed with a poor pen to begin with. And things like using a blue pen to sign over a blue shirt isn´t exactly ideal either. Concerning autographs with either cut corners or a weak signature it has been reflected with a lower price.

Autographs that, according to myself, isn´t very good have been labelled as scrap book quality and have been priced with a symbolic value. On the other hand, sometime it might just be that unique signature regardless of quality that may be the primary goal.
